City of Birmingham, AL
As an extension of my senior showcase I wanted to capture photography that highlighted the industrialization and cultural heritage of the City of Birmingham. On February 9th, 2024 I spent the day visiting a few landmarks capturing photos using my Canon R6 with a 24 - 70mm and 70 - 200mm lens.
Along with capturing significant landmarks I wanted to capture photographs of the city's buildings.
One of my locations that is one of the most historical landmarks in the city, is The Vulcan statue, it is the largest cast iron statue in the world, and is the city symbol of Birmingham reflecting its roots in the iron and steel industry. The 56-foot tall statue depicts the Roman god Vulcan, god of the fire and forge, with ironworking equipment.
The last place I visited was, Sloss Furnaces, it is a National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama. It operated as a pig iron-producing blast furnace from 1882 to 1971. After closing, it became one of the first industrial sites in the U.S. to be preserved and restored for public use.
While taking pictures at Sloss I captured photographs of the textures, in order to use them in my style guide, posters, and graphics made for my conceptual NFL Expansion of the Birmingham Iron. You can see how these textures were used in my showcase by visiting my senior presentation.
